What size ring is right for my piercing?

What size ring for my piercing? Complete guide

Because even your piercings deserve the best fit!

It's the big day and you can finally get a ring on your piercing! Or maybe you're tired of seeing that ring you've been carrying around for months and desperately want to change it. However, you might be unable to remember the size or diameter you need... That's okay, we'll explain everything in this article!

Disclaimer : First of all, you should know that the sizes we're going to give you are standards that are valid in most cases. But PLEASE NOTE : the size you need may vary depending on the location of your piercing and the shape of your ear.

We give advice in this article for the ring, but they apply exactly the same way to the horseshoe.

1. Consider the location of the piercing: even holes have their preferences!

You wouldn't see a bull in a china shop, would you? Likewise, each part of your body has its own piercing jewelry adapted to its environment:  Nose piercings and eyebrow piercings like smaller, lighter hoops, while ear and belly button piercings like to show off their "I'm here!" side with larger hoops.

2. Consider the thickness of the jewelry: diameter is not everything.

Think of the thickness of the jewelry as the personality of the piercing. Some like to be discreet with a thinner thickness, while others prefer to show their presence with a more pronounced thickness. Generally speaking, piercings are made with standard bar thicknesses:

Navel piercing  : 1.6 mm

Lobe piercing: 1.2 mm maximum if you were pierced with a needle, earrings very often have a much thinner stem.

Ear Cartilage Piercings: Helix, Conch, Anti-Helix, Rook, Tragus and Daith: 1.2 mm

Nostril piercing: 0.8 mm

Septum piercing: 1.2 mm

Lip piercings: 1.2 mm

3. And what about the diameter?

For belly button piercing, in most cases an 8mm belly button piercing ring will be sufficient, such as our Attachante ring, specially designed for your belly buttons!

For Tragus, anti-helix and Rook piercings which are small cartilages a 6mm ring should be enough!

For Daith and Septum piercings, it's more a matter of style! Some prefer a more discreet 8mm diameter ring, while others prefer a 10mm ring to better highlight the presence of their favorite accessory!

For the nostril, a small measurement is necessary! It all depends on the location of the hole in relation to the bottom of the nostril, the most common for the nostril is 8mm, but the morphology of the nose is important, thin noses will be satisfied with a 7mm and very small nose tips pierced rather low a 6mm, much rarer but it happens! So we have created Culot the perfect ring for you available in 6, 7, 8, and 10 mm. You will inevitably find the shoe that fits you or rather a ring that fits your nose!

Measuring your nose piercing ring

Same thing for your helix and conch piercing, it all depends on the location of your piercing, but generally an 8mm diameter piercing ring should be suitable for the helix, and for the Conch most often we install 10mm rings for our clients, or 12mm more rarely.

For the lobes, there is a greater freedom of choice, some like large, very dangling rings to mark their personality, and others like rings well plated to the lobe to highlight their ear composition with attention to detail!

Piercing ring size

We still advise you to adjust the diameter of the ring to the lobe depending on the location when you have several holes, the higher you go the smaller the earrings will be for the sake of harmony and to avoid weighing down the top of the lobe which is thinner.

4. Consult a professional: because even Batman needs his Commissioner Gordon

Your piercer has the expertise to guide you through the jungle of sizes and materials. Ask them all your questions, especially on the day you get pierced. Don't hesitate to ask them what dimensions your future ring will need!

5. Try different sizes

You won't know if it's the right size until you try it on, a bit like that hat you dared to wear once! But be careful, before moving on to the ring, your piercing must be properly healed to avoid damaging the piercing tunnel. If you've already made the change and now have a painful piercing, it's probably because it can't stand the ring, we give you the reasons for possible intolerances here .

Last little tip: we pay attention once again to the metal of the ring, we will always prefer a jewel in titanium, surgical steel, gold or gold-plated silver! With or without crystal, in white gold, gold or rose gold, fancy or classic, the choices are endless! You can even add a small pendant to the ring for the detail that makes the difference like our Lunatique and Indiscrète charms

In conclusion, choosing the ideal size for your piercing ring requires a little patience, keep in mind that even your small holes deserve meticulous attention to be healthy!
